I’m moved by the ways our beloved planet has been worshipped and defiled and the ability for it to come back again and again with its Eastern cathedrals of forest and the West’s endlessly epic horizons. I am specifically drawn to the American West, where time can feel on the loose and I cannot shake my European ancestors’ seemingly endless penchant for violence, attempts at ethnocide and ecological devastation. Surrounded by the ruins of monstrous historical injustice amongst a settler colonial landscape my work has a specific lens on North America but I also follow a trail of broken promises the world over. The bullied and persecuted come too and I find painful beauty in this quilt of many colors. “Art can be a tactic of resistance and has the potential to change habitual perspective and consciousness…to challenge old habits, prejudices and dominant powers”, Suzanne Wright, artist.
